Student & Personnel Services: Regional Occupational Program (ROP)
ROP's Santa Cruz High School Auto Shop: a City of Santa Cruz Clean Ocean Business for 10 Years!

Barry Kirschen, a Regional Occupational Program (ROP) Instructor recently received an award for ten years participation in the City of Santa Cruz Clean Ocean Business Program. Barry teaches the Engine Repair, Engine Performance, and Smog Certification Courses for ROP at the Santa Cruz High School Auto Shop.
County Office of Education (COE) Superintendant Michael Watkins and Deputy Superintendant Bryan Wall both attended the event to recognize Barry and the award presentation.
Other businesses and organizations receiving the included Beckmann’s Bakery, Santa Cruz Nissan Dodge, the City and County of Santa Cruz Auto Services, Goodwill Industries, and many others.

The City of Santa Cruz requires vehicle service facilities to adhere to a number of best management practices, which includes employee training and to operate in compliance with storm water and wastewater requirements, which help to protect water quality and keep our waterways and ocean clean.
Barry is responsible for the success of ROP's Auto Shop, and added, “Clean Ocean Businesses must adhere to best practices that ensure minimal release of pollutants, maximum recycling and effective hazardous waste management. Employees, and in this case, ROP students, must be trained in best practices. The City of Santa Cruz has inspected the facility annually since the program was introduced in the year 2000 and the operations pass muster each year.”
ROP is proud of Barry and his continued efforts to maintain a high level of professionalism in his courses and the community, and his effort's to protect the environment and our ocean.
