Star Academy Middle School

Star Community School graphic

Star Academy serves middle school students in grades 6 through 8. The school’s mission is to help students progress academically and develop the social skills and work habits which will be beneficial throughout their lives.

The purpose of Star Academy is to provide students with an alternative learning environment, supported by a low student-to-teacher ratio, where they can successfully continue their middle school education. A major focus is on strengthening academic competence and enhancing self-worth. This structured setting provides students with individual academic attention to maximize achievement. Core subjects include English language arts, science, social studies, health and physical education.

A collaboration of service agencies provides students with resource specialists, on-site counseling, as well as enrichment courses in technology, nutrition and wellness, and fine arts. Current enrichment programs include Body, Mind and Spirit Physical Education – Aikido, Organic Gardening, and Ceramics.

Our purpose at Star Academy:

  • Supporting each student to become a positive, self-sufficient and informed community member;
  • Providing each student with the opportunity to receive a middle-school advancement certificate;
  • Preparing students to enter and succeed academically and socially in high school;
  • Building self-confidence, self-esteem, and character through hands-on individual, small-group, and whole-class activities. Star

One should teach us how to make a living and the other how to live.”
