Santa Cruz Community School serves adolescent males in 7th -10th grades. The purpose of the community school program is to provide students with an alternative educational setting, supported by a low student to teacher ratio. The staff is committed to assisting students to overcome obstacles that may prevent them from receiving a solid and practical education. Understanding that not every student learns in the same manner, a variety of instructional strategies are used to maximize the opportunity for success.

The program at Santa Cruz Community School places strong emphases on the following:

  • Helping students realize success in an educational setting
  • Modeling respect and improving self-esteem
  • Curriculum aligned with the State Content Standards
  • Preparation for the California High School Exit Exam

The school program engages students in academic, social skills and mental health development. Students have access to services from counselors and resource specialists. Teachers maintain strong behavior management, which helps students gain appropriate social skills. Students work toward earning credits that will facilitate transition to a comprehensive school and help them become active lifelong learners.

"We know what we are, but know not what we may be."
-William Shakespeare
