Loudon Nelson Community School

Louden Nelson Community School serves students with both Classroom and Independent Studies programs located in Downtown Santa Cruz.

Focused on life skills as well as academics, the program is also an opportunity to get involved in the community.

Louden Nelson was a Santa Cruz resident in the 1850’s. A former slave, Nelson donated his land to the school district upon his death in 1860. The community center was built as an elementary school in 1932, but is now named after Nelson for his support of local schools.
