Louden Nelson Community School
serves students with both
Classroom and Independent Studies
programs located in Downtown
Santa Cruz.
Focused on life skills as well as
academics, the program is also
an opportunity to get involved
in the community.
Louden Nelson was a Santa Cruz
resident in the 1850’s. A former slave,
Nelson donated his land to the
school district upon his death in
1860. The community center was
built as an elementary school in
1932, but is now named after Nelson
for his support of local schools.

- Turn Right on Water Street
- Turn Left on Center Street
The school is located
inside the Loudon Nelson Center, in
Room 6.
