Alternative Education Program January 2008 Graduations

Congratulations!

The Alternative Education Department the Santa Cruz County Office of Education got off to a great start with a mid-year graduation for thirty students at a standing room only ceremony in the Technology Room on January 22, 2008. The ceremony included graduates and their families and friends as well as teachers and representatives of the participating schools.

Superintendent Michael Watkins and Alternation Education Director Sandy Mast represented the County Office of Education, while Arnie Levine and Kathy Mann represented the Board of Education. Each student’s honors and attributes were recognized at the ceremony attended by over 200 parents, family members and friends. Teachers spoke briefly about all of their students and then the students were given an opportunity to make comments and give thanks to those that had supported them through their high school years. A stirring rendition of the National Anthem was performed by Lisa Leuschner and opening remarks were provided by John Armstrong, Assistant Director of Alternative Education.

Congratulations! Among the students recognized was the first Eagle Scout to ever receive a high school diploma from alternative education. Another student during the ceremony performed a mesmerizing RAP underscoring his commitment to positively change his life. A special address acknowledging the graduate’s achievements while providing poignant advice was given by Arnie Levine. Following Mr. Levine’s remarks, high school diplomas were conferred to the 30 students. Closing remarks were then made by Superintendent Watkins. The ceremony concluded with support staff providing refreshments and cake. The ceremony was organized and the tech room beautifully arranged under the guidance of Lorena DeWild.

Congratulations! Graduation is a momentous event and a tremendous achievement reflecting 12 years of extraordinary sustained effort. We would like to congratulate all the graduates, their families, and our community partners as well as the many teachers, support staff, and administrators who make this possible.

Congratulations!Congratulations!
